Tracking Travel Time (Driving)

How can I track employees travel time?

If you pay your employees for travel time, or want to record the time spent driving to and from sites, there are a couple of ways you can do this within TimeKeeper.

Non-geofenced Job

The most common way TimeKeeper users track employee travel time, is via a non-geofenced job.

1) Add an appropriately named job, but leave the address blank.

2) Employees can select this new travel job when clocking in to start their journey.

3) When arriving on site, employees can switch to the relevant correct job.

Employees time will be segmented into the corresponding jobs. Via the reports function, you can see how much time is spent travelling across the company or on an individual basis.

Time Addition Request

Another way employee travel time can be tracked is via Time Addition Requests.

1) Create a custom request type for 'Travel Time' with the action of Time Addition (Requests > Request Types > New Request Type)

2) Employees submit their Time Addition request in app for the number of hours they have travelled.

3) Once approved by an Administrator, this is added to the timesheet as an addition. The clock in and out times aren't changed, but the additional hours are added to the total hours, and classified as time addition - travel time.

We hope this helps answer some of your queries around tracking employee travel time, if you have any other questions please reach out to the Customer Success team via live chat or support@timekeeper.co.uk.
