# Recommended Hardware & Accessories

TimeKeeper works with the majority of Android and iOS devices (current minimum iOs supported version is 13.4 and Android 7.0 (2016)*****), so you're free to make your own choice on which to use. 
There are a number of simple requirements that the device must have for TimeKeeper to run successfully:

#### Hardware Requirements for Tablet

1. If you are planning to use facial recognition, the device must have a front facing camera (to take clock in photographs)
2. The device must have internet connectivity be that over ethernet, data or Wi-Fi (preferred)
3. Hardware accessories should work in Portrait mode
4. We recommend using a device that was released no longer than 5 years ago.

||| Notes: iPad Air models are no longer supported and iOS version must be 13.4 or above
||| The TimeKeeper app is not available on Windows devices.


#### Hardware Requirements for Mobile

1. The device must have a GPS sensor - i.e. the device must be able to detect "Your Location" in Google Maps
2. The device must have internet connectivity be that over ethernet, data or Wi-Fi (preferred)

This covers the majority of mobile and tablet devices. So if you have an existing Android or iOS device, it will likely work with TimeKeeper.

#### Recommended Value Tablets

Generally we recommend a 10 inch tablet if using on-premise, as everything on screen will be easily visible.

7 inch tablets will also work fine, it just might be more difficult to see everything on a smaller screen.

#### Tablet Mounts (Wall + Tablet)

Perhaps you want to fix your tablet to the wall or to a desk, if security is top of your mind. There are a number of options available. TimeKeeper currently only functions in portrait mode, so you need a stand that will allow you to fix the tablet this way.

#### Ethernet Accessories

If you don't have Wi-Fi, you might require a few adapters to both power your tablet and provide it with internet via ethernet simultaneously.

**Power over Ethernet Accessories**
Most modern tablets only have one charging port (usually USB-C), so you’ll need a special adapter to connect to Ethernet and keep the tablet charged at the same time.

We recommend using a SimulCharge™ PoE Ethernet Adapter, which is designed to:
* Charge your tablet and connect it to the internet at the same time
* Prevent the battery from overcharging (which can cause it to swell or fail)
* Keep the internet connection stable, even if the network briefly drops

For critical setups employee timeclocks or public displays, we recommend the **eSynC-PE** model, which can automatically fix certain network issues without needing someone to unplug and restart it.

|| Note: Some tablets need to be set up a certain way to work with these adapters. For example, the Samsung Galaxy A9+ needs a special version of the adapter. If you’re using this tablet, make sure to tell Saratota before ordering, so they can configure it correctly.

### Data Usage:

Device data usage in TimeKeeper is mostly negligible, but can depend on which app features are being used. For example, if downloading documents, a single document may be a few MB.

If clocking in and out, twice a day on mobile, without facial recognition you can expect to use a couple of MB per month.

If you’re using facial recognition, it’s around 1MB per clock entry (700kb but we round up for a buffer)

So that’s 2MB per day or approximately 75MB per month (based on working 30 days a month). This is an upper bound estimation with a buffer included.

You can also check the TimeKeeper specific data usage in the apps section of your the smartphone or device being used.
